After consulting with municipal leaders, sponsors and public health officials, we regret to announce that we are cancelling the Sept. 26, 2020 Hey Hey 5k run in Baileys Harbor.
Hey Hey 5K race director Myles Dannhausen Jr. said canceling the run staged at Baileys Harbor Autumnfest weekend was the right thing to do.
“There will be plenty of opportunities for us to race in the future, so it doesn’t make any sense for us to host a large gathering that could put our participants, volunteers or others at risk,” Dannhausen said.
“So many of my neighbors and our local business owners are sacrificing so much to keep our Door County community safe during this pandemic,” Dannhausen said. “The Baileys Harbor Community Association has canceled Autumnfest and earlier this summer cancelled one of its great traditions, the July 4 celebration, all to put public health first. In light of that, it wouldn’t be right for me to host several hundred people at an event that could make the work of Door County Public Health and Door County Medical Center more difficult. It’s a tough call, but it’s the right call.”
Dannhausen said the race will be back in 2021, and he holds out hope that he can see runners at the Door County Half Marathon on Oct. 31.
